I’ve been driving around Norfolk delivering copies of Back Stories: Further Adventures in Colonel Unthank’s Norwich. The book can be ordered online from The City Bookshop (press this link to order it directly). It is also available from Jarrolds Book Department, Norwich (not quite yet online 8/11/22) (01603 660661) and from their branch in Cromer (01263 512190). It can also be bought by click-and-collect from Waterstones, Castle Street, Norwich (01603 767292); The Book Hive, Norwich (01603 219268) and The Holt Bookshop (01263 715858).

Do you know anything about the Robberds family and, if so, do they feature in any of your books, please?

No, Victoria, I haven’t come across the Robberds. Good luck in your search.

John Warden Robberds 1784-1871 co authored The Scenery of the the Rivers of Norfolk with my Great x3 grandfather James Stark (Norwich School of Painters ). He came from a family of dissenters and married Ann May Unthank. He was son of John Whitaker Robberds , mayor of Norwich 1814. In the 1830s and 40s lived in Magdalen St.and is buried in the Rosary Cemetery with several of his family.

Thank you so much for that information, which is interesting.
My Great grandfather was a Walter John Forbes Robberds 1863-1944 and I am trying to establish if he has anything to do with all the Robberds families in Norwich.
Best wishes. Victoria

I know I’m somewhat late to the party, but just wanted to say that Back Stories is a superb book. To read the blog posts plus the additions in such a well-produced publication is a real pleasure. To present Norwich history with a fine balance between the art of storytelling with the background of sound research is a rare talent. (I’m also glad to see that Brampton gets its mention on page 38!).
