After seven years the first book in the Unthank series (Colonel Unthank and the Golden Triangle) continues to sell well and was reprinted for a third time in May 2023. Some copies of the second book (Colonel Unthank’s Norwich: A Sideways Look at the City) are still available. The third book (Back Stories: Further Adventures in Colonel Unthank’s Norwich) is a third thicker than the second, containing 26 chapters based on my blog, colonelunthanksnorwich.com.

Praise for the Unthank books
For ‘Back Stories’ (Unthank 3). “… an appetising new collection of ‘Adventures in Colonel Unthank’s Norwich’ by the historian Clive Lloyd.” (Christopher Howse. Daily Telegraph 19th November 2022).
” ‘Back Stories’, just out, is absolutely brilliant and packed with all kinds of stories looking at the life and times of Norfolk over hundreds of years and some of our greatest characters.” (Derek James. Eastern Daily Press 15th November 2022).
For ‘A Sideways Look at the City (Unthank 2). “It must rank as one of the finest books in recent times on the Fine City.” (Derek James. Eastern Daily Press 26th June 2021).
“I would say that superlative promotion of the public understanding of history comes from Twitter accounts like those of Colonel Unthank.” (Christopher Howse. Daily Telegraph 8th January 2022).
“If you only have one ‘local history’ book on your shelves, make it this one … It will actually enrich your life as a citizen of Norwich.” (Sophie Frank, editor of The Golden Guide 2021).

Do you know anything about the Robberds family and, if so, do they feature in any of your books, please?

Thank you so much for that information, which is interesting.
My Great grandfather was a Walter John Forbes Robberds 1863-1944 and I am trying to establish if he has anything to do with all the Robberds families in Norwich.
Best wishes. Victoria

I know I’m somewhat late to the party, but just wanted to say that Back Stories is a superb book. To read the blog posts plus the additions in such a well-produced publication is a real pleasure. To present Norwich history with a fine balance between the art of storytelling with the background of sound research is a rare talent. (I’m also glad to see that Brampton gets its mention on page 38!).
